SEDATION DENTISTRY - No more fear or anxiety!
At Twilight Dentistry we understand that many people experience fear and anxiety when they visit the dentist. If you or someone you know has a high level of anxiety about visiting the dentist, hates needles, hates the noises and smells associated with a dental office, or are ashamed or embarrassed by their teeth, they may be a candidate for sleep or sedation dentistry. This fear or anxiety can prevent many people from going to the dentist and keeping them from getting proper and the necessary dental treatment.
Don’t let dental anxiety keep you from regular dental care any longer.
Sedation dentistry will allow you to remain calm, relaxed and comfortable during any dental procedure you may need. Depending on the level of sedation dentistry you choose, you will have very little or no memory of the treatment provided.
Are you or your family member a candidate for sleep dentistry? When thinking about going to the dentist, do you experience any of the following?
- Fear or anxiety
- Traumatic dental experiences
- A fear of needles
- A sensitive gag reflex
- Very sensitive teeth
- Extensive dental problems
- Difficulty getting numb
- Too busy a schedule to complete dental treatment
Advantages of Sedation Dentistry for Children:
- No need for your child to take courses of antibiotics and painkillers while waiting for available facilities in order to restore extensive areas of decay
- Multiple procedures, that would usually require several return visits, can be completed in just one appointment
- After treatment using Sedation Dentistry, your child will have no stress or anxious memories of dental visits
We offer four (4) different sleep dentistry options for your comfort and convenience depending on your level of anxiety
- Mild Anxiety
- Moderate Anxiety
- Moderate-Severe Anxiety
- Severe Anxiety
Mild Anxiety This treatment method is for adults or children with mild anxiety toward dental treatment. Patients will remain fully conscious and feel completely relaxed and often euphoric upon the inhalation of “laughing gas” (nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen) for the entire dental appointment. Patients relax while breathing normally into a fitted mask. Recovery is almost immediate following withdrawal of the nitrous oxide.
This treatment method is for patients with more moderate anxiety. A combination of oral medication and nitrous oxide (as described above) is prescribed. (The oral medication is to be taken at home prior to the appointment). With this type of sedation, you will need to have someone accompany you to the appointment and drive you home. Upon arrival to the office, your vital signs will be monitored and Dr. Rubinoff will determine if more medication is required for the treatment. When you are totally relaxed and comfortable, your dental needs will be looked after. You may find that you drift in and out of sleep.
This treatment method of Deep Conscious Sedation is geared to the adult patient that is more anxious, or several dental appointments are necessary to complete treatment. We offer intravenous sedation that is administered by Dr. Rubinoff, while a registered nurse monitors your vital signs at all times to ensure comfort and safety. With this sedation option you will be in a deep, relaxed, sleepy but responsive conscious state.
Severe Anxiety In this treatment option, you are completely asleep. A general anesthetic is administered by an anesthesiologist (medical doctor), all while your vital signs are continually monitored by a registered nurse. This sedation method is very beneficial for those who suffer from severe anxiety or have a gag reflex. This option is geared for anyone ages 18 months or older.
